Yesterday I’ve visited the ATP tournament in Hamburg (Germany) for the first time. Despite heavy rain I saw really good tennis at the International German Open. Today I uploaded pictures and videos of the semifinals day.

After arriving at the venue I followed the practice sessions of some players on Center Court: Nikolay Davydenko and the doubles teams Marcelo Melo / Filip Polasek and Frantisek Cermak / Michal Martinek. The first match under the closed roof was a Juniors match between the Germans Nico Matic and Lars-Hendrik Behlen which Behlen won.

The first singles semifinal was Paul-Henri Mathieu from France vs. the suprise qualifier Pablo Cuevas from Uruguay. It was a great match with a lot of worth seeing rallies. Cuevas played a strong first set. I was really impressed by his style of playing especially his one-handed backhand. Mathieu played very inconsistant until he broke back in the second set and turned the paper to level the match. But before the third and deciding set was ready to start heavy rain stopped the match. Despite of the closed roof water dropped on court and the stands. But for all that the atmosphere was great. After over a over 30 minute break the match restarted. Mathieu started great in the third set and led fastly with 4-0. But Cuevas turned the paper to level the set to 5-5. Then Mathieu broke Cuevas’ serve again and closed a really good match with 4-6 6-3 7-5.

Nikolay Davydenko & David Ferrer played the second semifinal. The Spaniard Ferrer broke early but Davydenko broke back at 2-5. The Russian played very constantly and won the first set 7-5. The second set was nearly a duplication of the first so Davydenko won 7-5 7-6(2).

Hamburg was the last tournament for me to visit in 2009. Next year I plan to go to WTA Stuttgart for the whole week and some German Bundesliga matches in Berlin.
Pics & videos of Djokovic, Haas and more from Halle

Last Saturday I was on a one-day-trip to Halle (Westfalen), Germany, to attend the semifinals of the ATP tournament Gerry Weber Open. Of course I made some pictures and videos.
Video of Novak Djokovic playing soccer tennis with his coaches:
After watching the practice sessions of Olivier Rochus & Novak Djokovic I watched the first singles semifinal at the Gerry Weber Stadion. It was the German battle between Tommy Haas and Philipp Kohlschreiber. Haas did a bad start into the match and lost the first set 2-6. Especially his serve was very poor. It continued in the second set. Kohlschreiber led 5-3 and served for the match but Haas catched the rebreak. From now on the match was tied. The second and third sets went into a tiebreak where Tommy Haas had better nerves. He won 2-6 7-6 7-6 in a very intensive match.

The second semifinal was world No. 4 Novak Djokovic vs. Belgian qualifier Olivier Rochus who surprised in the previous rounds. It was a very interesting match with a lot of long and high quality points. Djokovic had problems to control the match because the small Rochus had really fast legs and got nearly all balls. After winning the first set in tiebreak Djokovic took control of the match and won after hard work 7-6 6-4.

I didn’t watch the doubles semifinal of Kas/Kohlschreiber vs. Haas/Kohlmann.

WTA Stuttgart 2009 – I’ll be there!
April 8, 2009 at 8:39 pm | In ATP, WTA | Leave a CommentTags: ATP, German Bundesliga, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Tennis, WTA
For half a year I haven’t posted here anything… OK, there was nothing special to report
This year I’ll attend the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart the third consecutive year. But this time the WTA tournament will be very early in the calendar – and this year the world elite will play on clay indoors!!!
I’ll be there from April 30th until May 2nd. I’m not planning to attend the final because I have to go to work the next day
Players like Jankovic, Dementieva or Azarenka will be there, so it’s going to be an interesting tournament. Here you can watch the complete Stuttgart Entry list. Of course I’ll take a lot of pics and make some videos
Earlier this year I planned to attend the complete WTA tournament in Berlin in May but it was cancelled
So, I changed my plans a bit and I’ll watch some days of Women’s German Bundesliga (German website) in May and June. Not sure but I’m also planning to attend one or two days of the ATP tournament in Hamburg in July.
So, stay tuned!
ATP Halle report and pics now online

As promised I uploaded today my pics from ATP Halle (GER) where I was on Tuesday.
Because I was caught up in a traffic jam for two hours in the morning I missed the match of world No. 7 James Blake in his match vs. the German Björn Phau

The first match I watched was French old hand Fabrice Santoro vs. Rainer Schüttler. It was an interesting match with some worth seeing shots. Then I moved to the Gerry Weber Stadion (centre court) to watch Nicolas Kiefer in his match vs. Dutch hope Robin Haase. After a bad first set of Kiefer with many unforced errors he played much better and won the match in three sets.

The match of the day came shortly after when Tommy Haas played vs. the Czech Radek Stepanek. It was the first match of Haas after a long shoulder injury. It was – to tell the truth – a really boring match because both served very well. So it came that there were only a few good shots. At the end Haas won.
Before I left I attended for a few games the doubles match of Christopher Kas and Philipp Petzschner vs. No. 2 seed team Martin Damm / Pavel Vizner.

Because I had to get up early next morning and I had a trip of four hours back to Berlin I had to leave at six o’clock…
All pics I made that day you can find in the gallery. I also updated the player lists where you now can click on the name of your preferred player and can watch all the pics of her or him
The next tournament I’ve planed to attend so far will be WTA Stuttgart in October…
Welcome to sk tennis!

Hello tennis fan!
Welcome to my blog. In the future I’ll post here all my tennis photos. Please note that the page is still under construction so there might be some changes.

In the past I attended two WTA tournaments where I made a lot of pictures. 2007 in Stuttgart (GER) and 2008 in Berlin (GER). Amongst others I made pics of players like Justine Hénin, French Open champion Ana Ivanovic, Serena Williams, Jelena Jankovic or my favourite player Tatiana Golovin. A complete list of players I have pictures of you’ll find at the player list.

This week I visited the ATP tournament in Halle (GER). Pictures of players like Tommy Haas, Nicolas Kiefer and Fabrice Santoro will follow soon.
And now I hope you enjoy my pics which you can find in the gallery.
Have fun!
Simon
