Yesterday I’ve visited the ATP tournament in Hamburg (Germany) for the first time. Despite heavy rain I saw really good tennis at the International German Open. Today I uploaded pictures and videos of the semifinals day.

After arriving at the venue I followed the practice sessions of some players on Center Court: Nikolay Davydenko and the doubles teams Marcelo Melo / Filip Polasek and Frantisek Cermak / Michal Martinek. The first match under the closed roof was a Juniors match between the Germans Nico Matic and Lars-Hendrik Behlen which Behlen won.

The first singles semifinal was Paul-Henri Mathieu from France vs. the suprise qualifier Pablo Cuevas from Uruguay. It was a great match with a lot of worth seeing rallies. Cuevas played a strong first set. I was really impressed by his style of playing especially his one-handed backhand. Mathieu played very inconsistant until he broke back in the second set and turned the paper to level the match. But before the third and deciding set was ready to start heavy rain stopped the match. Despite of the closed roof water dropped on court and the stands. But for all that the atmosphere was great. After over a over 30 minute break the match restarted. Mathieu started great in the third set and led fastly with 4-0. But Cuevas turned the paper to level the set to 5-5. Then Mathieu broke Cuevas’ serve again and closed a really good match with 4-6 6-3 7-5.

Nikolay Davydenko & David Ferrer played the second semifinal. The Spaniard Ferrer broke early but Davydenko broke back at 2-5. The Russian played very constantly and won the first set 7-5. The second set was nearly a duplication of the first so Davydenko won 7-5 7-6(2).

Hamburg was the last tournament for me to visit in 2009. Next year I plan to go to WTA Stuttgart for the whole week and some German Bundesliga matches in Berlin.

Yesterday I visited the 2nd matchday of the German women’s 1st Bundesliga. The hometeam & climber TC 1899 Blau Weiß Berlin welcomed the TC WattExtra Bocholt. Because of the French Open in Roland Garros some of the best players of Bocholt like Caroline Wozniacki and Lucie Safarova weren’t there. But despite of this fact there where some good players – especially Spaniards and South Americans

I attended the following singles matches (Berlin players mentioned first):
Agnes Szatmari (HUN) – Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez (ESP) 3-6 1-6
Soledad Esperon (ESP) – Lourdes Dominguez Lino (ESP) 4-6 6-7(4)
Elisa Balsamo (ITA) – Nuria Llagostera Vives (ESP) 4-6 1-6
Kveta Peschke (CZE) – Klara Zakopalova (CZE) 3-6 5-7
Vivien Weber (GER) – Renata Voracova (CZE) 5-7 6-4 1-6
Syna Schreiber (GER) – Marlot Meddens (NED) 6-2 6-2
The most matched were of good quality. The match of the day was the Czech battle between Kveta Peschke and Klara Zakopalova. But also in the match of Soledad Esperon and Lourdes Dominguez Lino there were a lot of good rallies with many nice dropshots.

The conditions were very problematic because rain, sunshine & wind changed nearly every minute. I didn’t follow the doubles matches. In the end Bocholt won 7-2.
I’ve uploaded 95 pictures & 9 videos (available in HD).
Next Saturday I’ll be in Halle, Germany to watch the semifinals of the ATP tournament Gerry Weber Open. I hope to see players like Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Of course I’ll take pictures and videos again

I’ve uploaded the next picture package. Today I can show you my semifinal pics from singles and a doubles match. I think these pics became really cool
You can watch the pictures here.
Summary of the matches I watched:

The day started with the singles match between Svetlana Kuznetsova and Elena Dementieva. It was a good match but Dementieva became more and more problems with her serve and made a lot of unforced errors. Svetlana Kuznetsova played the complete match on a high level and won the match in the end.

Between the singles matches a doubles semifinal was played: Bethanie Mattek-Sands / Nadia Petrova vs. Virginia Ruano Pascual / Zheng Jie. Mattek and Petrova played a strong first set but became unconcentrated in the second which Ruano Pascual and Zheng won. In the deciding match tiebreak the Russian-American duo played strong again and won the match.

The match of the day was Dinara Safina vs. Flavia Pennetta. The Italian played strong in the beginning like in her quarterfinal vs. Jankovic and benefits on many errors of the world No. 1 Safina. When Pennetta led a set and a break Safina turned the paper and played great tennis. In the third set Pennetta wasn’t able to play competitive and lost it with a bagel.
The 2nd doubles match I didn’t watch because it was late and Pennetta made a long suitable rest for her match at the side of Gisela Dulko…
Tomorrow I’ll try to upload practice pics of all three days I stayed in Stuttgart
